          OUR LOGO

Designed by graphic artist Shelby Carcio, the Logo of the Polonia Business Association
features the silhouette of a winged Hussar charging into battle.  The Polish "Husaria"
fought for the Polish crown between the 16th and 18th centuries. The elite cavalry unit
soon gained a reputation of winning many decisive battles against overwhelming odds.
In the Battle of Kluszyn during Polish-Muscovite War, for example, the Polish-Lithuanian
army defeated the Russians heavily despite being outnumbered five to one.

The most famous Hussar victory occurred during Battle of Vienna after the city was
sieged by Turks in 1683.  Under King Jan III Sobieski of Poland, an army of 81,000 men
attacked an army of 130,000.   The Battle of Vienna is seen by many historians as marking
the beginning of the decline of the Ottoman Empire and Sobieski was hailed as the
"Savior of Vienna and Western European civilization."

The spirit of the Polish Cavalry would be introduced to the United States as our young
nation would fight for its own independence.  General Casmir Pułaski  would fight in the
American Revolution under the command of George Washington.   A noted cavalryman,
he played an integral role in training Revolutionary troops and forming the United States
Cavalry.  Like fellow countryman General Thaddeus Kosciuzko, Pułaski was an important
figure in our nation's quest for independence.

From the founding of Jamestown until today, Poland has a longstanding history of
friendship and support with the United States.  Our organization was formed in the
spirit of that friendship.  It is our goal to continue to foster the contributions of Poles
as those ties continue to grow.
